Summing up 2009

Okay, 2009 is coming to an end, and maybe I should reflect on what my 2009 has been like.

WOW. Exciting yea.

Hmm. 2009 is really a boomz year for me, done quite a lot of things, many.
Gone in a flash? Definitely.

Like, in January, I was still majoring in Slacking and Wasting Time Away.
Then not long after, I found myself a job and totally found another side of me, the hardworking part.
Then I realised that maybe I should be more apt in machinary, so I went to learn driving. And oh boy did I find another side of me, the no-sense-of-direction-and-extremely-poor-multi-tasker part.
Then I cut my hair short after having long hair for a long long time. Hmm, do I look even older with short hair? I'm trying to grow it long already~
Then, I found myself a place in university, so finally I get a taste of what it is like to be an Undergraduate.
Then, I went to Taiwan, and I found the next-most beautiful country other than Thailand. Of course, I found another side of myself, the having-the-ability-to-eat-a-lot part.
Then, I passed my driving and got my driving license, wow, Edelyn can now DRIVE on the roads, that's just amazing!
Then, I entered university, thinking that it's about the same as JC, then I found another side of myself, the not-very-fond-of school-and-easily homesick part. Well, entering university is not only entering another phase of my life, but also destroying a huge portion of hope I had to having a carefree and enjoyable life. BLEH.
Then, I got a taste of examinations in university, OH MEE GORD, I didn't choose to end my life this way yea? What am I doing?
Then, holidays, I went to Hongkong, another beautiful country that's just a little bit too polluted. Had fun there, and hoped that Singapore would disappear from this Earth so I could stay in Hongkong forever. I too found another side of myself, the hate-to-accept-reality part. Who does?
But 2009 proved me wrong so many shitty times.
I had to accept reality no matter how hard and awful, as I couldn't even stop it from slamming itself onto me. BAM!
And reality has it, the year's ending, and hopefully the shits that came with it will be brought along with it as it goes. *prays hard that 2010 will be somewhat better*
2009 is indeed a year of MIXED FEELINGS. haha. What better words to describe such polarized experiences?

Evan Yo + Singapore Idol + Sherlock Holmes + My new bag!

WA HAHAHAHA.
I went to Bugis on Sunday for Evan Yo (蔡旻佑)'s autograph session. Bought his album quite a while ago, and he finally came to Singapore for his autograph session.
The queue moved rather fast, and I didn't have to wait long, partly because most of the crowd there were passers-by, and I went shopping while he was singing. Hehheh.

He quite dark leh...

He was blowing his nose too, presumely having caught a cold.
~Then I wonder how people even catch a cold here in hot Singapore~

:) Nice guy, sweet smile (:
Tada, my autographed album. HOHOHO.

Then, Liz and I met her friends, Vanessa and Shi En at the Singapore Indoor stadium. We were going to watch Singapore Idol Finals LIVE!
Won the tickets through Y.E.S 93.3 a couple of weeks ago. Liz was over da moon man.
Clappers.

In the stadium.

The live performances were awesome, although we were sitting far away from the stage.

The guest performer, Cherice, was GOOD! Some heavenly vocals she has, she gave us all goosebumps~!

And she's only 17.

Yes, Sezairi won! WOOHOO! Like, so obviously, you know he'll win, but you're just keeping mum because you want a female to win this year instead to break that 'Mat Idol' curse. Sorry man, Mat Idol FTW! Wa ha ha. Sylvia was good too, she has the star qualities, but Sezairi's 'Crazy' totally won me over. But undeniably, both Sezairi and Sylvia are good singers. Hopefully the market out there can provide some future for these awesome vocals.

-----

AND, I bought the bag I saw and fell in love with at first sight.

WAHAHA.
I contemplated for soooo long, all thanks to Tricia who brought me to MUJI and showed me another nice looking black backpack which seems sturdier than the original red one I wanted.
After sitting down at Starbucks and tossed a coin a couple of times, I made my decision to go back to the first love, the red Jordan backpack. Hehheh.
Edelyn is a happy kid again!

WOOOOOOO~!

Of course, I watched Sherlock Holmes with roommie.
It was an intriguing movie, with a lot of brains. Well, Holmes is a brainer, his doctor friend just makes them both the perfect investigation team. Although this show was really exciting, I FELL ASLEEP during a fighting scene. It's weird la, I don't know why I keep falling asleep when watching shows with fighting scenes. It happened during Transformers 1 and 2, and now it happened again. Maybe as I've said, I fainted. Cos' I fell alseep without realising it, and only to wake up and see the evil guy dead already. I totally missed the most important part, how the bad guy died, because I fell asleep! AH! I should watch it again.

Wa, finally finished typing. And I have to go back to school on Wednesday. SIAN.

The iPhone war, Singapore style.

Anyone saw the new Starhub advertisement recently? The one where they show a finger poking and sliding on a red tomato, and also on an orange pineapple. Kinda stupid advertisement right? Starhub seems to have failed in making a parody; not many people even understand what's the meaning of poking a tomato and a pineapple. Well, red represents a certain telco operator in Singapore, and orange represents another. Recently, all three telco operators in Singapore are bringing in the iPhone. So of course, to increase competition and boost sales, green Starhub (no pun intended) decided to make an almost meaningless, and pointless, commercial. Direct war? Not really, fruits don't really mean anything. Comic effect? Not really, because seeing a finger poking and sliding against a tomato is nothing comical. Sarcastic? Probably, well, at least now we know that Singtel is likened to a tomato, M1 to a pineapple, and Starhub, well, was some telco operator giving out free green apples along Orchard Road some days ago? Oooo now we know.

Anyway, that Starhub advertisement reminds me of this video I saw on youtube some time back. It's the Apple vs. Blackberry and vice versa advertisement.

HAHAHAHA. I WIN.

I have been hooked on Bubble Town for the longest time. Ever since I got my new YARI phone, I've been trying to get through all the levels of the game. That phone is a game phone packed with lots of games, but the one and only game I play in it is Bubble Town. The only purpose of my phone is really to sms, call, and Bubble Town. Haha. The game is not easy to complete leh, there are levels so difficult to complete, you'll want to pull out your hair while hitting the buttons of the phone. I remember one night when roommie and I were just trying to complete a level and we only managed to sleep at 3 plus A.M, without completing the level! Levels 6.4 and 9.4 were super difficult to complete can! Those levels took me weeks to complete while others were completed within minutes. Yay yay yay~ Haha. Finally I can get a life after completing this dumb game. Now I know why some people out there are so hooked onto online and virtual games, that's cos' you'll feel very frustrated and incomplete when you've started on a game yet not completing it. Now I know why my brother is glued onto the tv with this XBOX control in his hands too. Such a waste of precious time man!

Bodyguards and Assassins 《十月围城》

We went to watch Bodyguards and Assassins at PS today, 10.30a.m show, super early.

The movie was not too bad; the fighting scenes were gruesome yet powerful. I like it how ordinary commoners like rickshaw pullers, entertainers, hawkers and beggars can come together with the rich and influential, and are willing to sacrifice themselves out of friendship, loyalty and country pride. I cried so many times during the movie, I don’t really like it when innocents die while the baddies continue going around killing more innocents :( boohoo~ It's funny to see Jacky Cheung appear for a few seconds in the beginning of the movie, then dying in a very anti-climax fashion. Leon Lai was this weirdo begger who miraculously got his messy hair all straightened out after a bath. Eric Tseng acted as a policeman with this hideous Bollywood style mustache. I especially like the acting of the old guy who acted as 李玉棠, his eyes portrayed emotions beyond words. If only the character重光 survived. HAIZ. Go watch, it's a nice movie.

HO HO HO~

...
No, my photo is right side up, this Christmas tree is really upside down.
Saw this failed Christmas tree in Tampines 1 last month, what a joke. But well, at least it's funny and rather innovative...

Better than this one here..

Look at Ngee Ann City, the BIG Christmas tree you see above is used and reused again every year, goodness!
And there are always people taking photo with that same old Christmas tree every year! For what? To compare see how old you've grown over the years is it? Haiz.
Hmm...

As I grow older, Christmas doesn't really seem to be such a great and exciting event more and more. Now, it's really just another public holiday for me. Presents? Well, they are really just for formality sake.
How I remember Christmas eves used to be fun and happening, in an aunt's house, playing BINGO, winning presents, exchanging gifts, eating and laughing till late into the night. Not so anymore after all the children grow older, and getting together for a night of celebration seems almost inpossible.

Oh, it's okay, I'm going to watch Bodyguards and Assasins tomorrow! What a wow way to spend Christmas yea? HEE.

Throwing in some pictures to get into the Christmasy mood.
In HK.

In my aunt's house today.

Mattheus and his presents

My present from Mattheus. Check out my arm's colour, that's how black I became due to ISG.

Kenneth looking shocked.

Random photo

Random too.

Us with presents.

Yah, that's about all.

Oh, I hear people counting down to Christmas just now.
Merry Christmas!

@ anon on my tagboard.

Hey! Nice name there, how do you pronounce it? A-non, An-on, or? Okay, be serious. Thanks for your comment, it’s really nice to know that there’s someone out there who reads my reviews, albeit long and tedious to read.

Yoga’s album, I believe, is one of the better albums released this year. For unknown reasons, MANY singers came out with mini albums (around 4-5 tracks, something like an EP), cover alums (cover versions, 重唱) and even compilation albums (精选辑、自选辑), as though no one is serious in making music anymore. Maybe song producers are tired, or have a lack of inspiration to produce more songs. I don’t know, but just this year, I feel that Korean and Western music has been dominating my ears more than Mandarin songs. This has made Yoga’s album seem, in relative, packed with a whole lot more sincerity than others.

You’ve especially mentioned Yoga’s 《说谎》 in your comment. You questioned me if I knew what the real meaning of Shuo Huang. Hmm, I may have to break up and analyze your question further in order to answer you. Do you literally want to know the meaning of Shuo Huang (说谎)? Or do you want to know the story behind the lyrics? Or are you posting a challenge to me that I do not know the meaning of it? Haha. Sorry, but your question was not phrase very clearly, or maybe I’m just over-thinking.

Anyway, here are my responds to your question. Shuo Huang (说谎) means to tell a lie, or ‘bluffing’ in a kid’s term. If you want the story behind the lyrics, you should really just ask the lyricist, because he knows best of what he wrote. Haha. Of course, I can share my own interpretation of the song with you. The words 我没有说谎 suggest that he might be telling some truth, yet the words 我何必说谎 busted his point and hints strongly that he indeed is lying (it’s like no bad person will admit that he is bad, right?). So throughout the song, although he affirms and reaffirms that he is not sad about lost love and is telling the truth, he is clearly lying to himself and also to the girl. This is perhaps a form of denial, or maybe a stubborn insistent that he is alright despite a failed relationship. I do have different feelings towards different songs each time I listen to them, so my thoughts may change. That’s the wonders of good songs, they seem so appropriate anytime, anywhere.

Hope my explanation helps :) This looks more like an essay man. Haha.

Anyway, here’s the lyrics of 《说谎》 below.

Fahrenheit @ St. James Power House

I reached St. James at 4.30pm yesterday, and the queue was already mega long. So I joined the queue and waited for Tricia to come with dinner. After queueing and waiting for something that felt like a thousand years, the queue finally moved. The event was supposed to start at 7pm, but it started at around 8.15pm instead. They are never on time, and I'm quite pissed off by the behaviour of some fans too. Some people in front of us pulled chairs from the bar counter and STOOD on the chairs! Thankfully they were sensible enough to considerately get off the chair after a while. There were crazy young fans all over the place, and I instantly felt super old. But I saw some old people too, like around retirement age. Maybe they are looking for a past-time, and chasing pop idols fits the bill.

Here are some pictures:
Tricia and Me

Superdog for dinner.

Power House. We queued till the skies are dark

Finally inside Power House

With hoards of people already inside.

They are here!

My camera was sucky, the shutter speed was slow due to the lighting.

Wuchun and Jiro

Jiro was very high

Jiro in his own world, like always.

Keeps taking pictures of the crowd.

Aaron wasn't feeling well.

Calvin was funny last night

Wu Chun was normal. haha.

Jiro acting cute, all the time.

We were actually rather near them.. But the camera failed me.

Jiro's hair looks like a helmet

And his pants are very distracting

There were a lot of crazy fans

Holding up the cameras...

Calvin acted like the host of the night

Jiro's hair is really...

Nice side profile..

Eh, look here leh

Aaron waved at our direction a couple of times, but my camera was too slow to take any down.

Aaron turning around to sneeze

And another sneeze

And another sneeze

And wipes hand on shirt. haha. Like old man la.

Lucky fans got to get up the stage and play games with them

Ah choo!

Aaron looking sick and sad at a corner

Playing games, look at WuChun, so agitated!

Calvin doing some beat-box

They were funny

Everyone enjoyed themselves.

I have fun laughing too

Pointing into the sky?

While playing games, Jiro was still with his fans in their own world.

Continuing to 比手画脚

Seriously, I wasn't concentrating on the game they were playing, I was just looking and staring at Aaron's face.

Lucky fans on the stage got to touch them, take picture with them and hug them.

Jiro acting as himself (a monkey) while Calvin pretends to feed him with a banana.

Eating the 'banana'

HAHA

Sniffs sniffs

Fans playing games... I think Aaron has the most fans, cos' all the girls wanted to be in his group. Which leaves me with a lot of love rivals. HAHA.

Jiro was too high

“悄悄话要用丹田否则观众会听不见~”

Talking to the DJ host

See, Jiro in his own world again instead on concentrating on the game

Actually last night's event was a rather random one...

They came just for this event...

Some screwed up schedule they've got.

Bling ear stud

Last night Calvin and Jiro were just the comedians of the show.

Singing

<3

Some lucky fan they call Princess.

She's really lucky

Got to stand with them while they danced and sing

Cool eh.

Haiz, I really want a new camera la. haha.

That's all. The rest are way to blur.
:)
