Ip Man 2

Watched Ip Man 2 on Saturday night, and I can proudly say out, "Donnie Yen is my IDOL!"

Although most of us agree that the sequel is not as fantastic as the first one, but still, it's amazing.

Sometimes I really wonder if Wing Chun (永春）is as formidable as it seems.

It's portrayed to the the best in the movie and everyone is awed by it.

Yet, the guy that practices this form of martial arts is this calm and gentle-looking man.

 Like what is mentioned in the movie, it's not the fighting that matters, but the mutual respect for each other.

NICE.  

My brother is going to watch this movie for the second time, see how good it is?

14 Blades 锦衣卫

I am so tired; I can sit in front of the com and fall right into sleep now.
This morning, at an unearthly timing of 2.30am, I found myself at HSS building doing night watch duty.
My duty: Sit around and look after the tables and chairs. WTH?!
Any person with at least a single working brain cell can think of better and more efficient way than to plant people around an empty square to look after foldable tables and plastic chairs. Heard of a storeroom, anyone? They’ve effectively wasted precious (sleeping) time of many students. I can only shake my head in disbelief when I heard that I have to go for night watch duty from 230 to 530 am to look after the ‘booths’.
But I left duty earlier at 5am, because I have a VISA interview at 7am. Tricia and I rushed and waited for the first bus to get ourselves out of this secluded area called NTU. But the bus came only at 6.25am. We boarded the train and reached Clementi at 6.55am. How can we get to Novena by 7.15am? We took a cab. A total waste of money. Interview at the US embassy was quite fast. The guy just asked me a few questions and it was approved. Yay! USA, I’m coming in May!

Then, Tricia and I met Dewi and we went to watch 14 Blades. I fell asleep the very moment I sat down in the cinema. I think I missed out quite a bit of the movie and Tricia kept nudging me in attempt to wake me. I can’t even keep my eyelids open; it was seriously involuntary closure of the lids. Then, she nudged me again real hard, and I popped open my eyes in shock and saw this handsome figure on the movie screen. WU CHUN! Goodness! He looks so dashing and charismatic. His character looks a bit like Captain Jack Sparrow of the Pirates of the Carribbean, super cool and hawt. HAHA! Donnie Yen is quite cool too. Qi Yu Wu’s character is okay la. Vicki Zhao looks really old. Kate Tsui’s character just makes me hate her even more than before. Overall, I think Wu Chun’s character left the most impression on me. Partly because he is extremely handsome and drop-dead gorgeous, another is because he plays a bandit who has a righteous heart, the kind of characters which everyone likes. Too bad his character died, all thanks to Kate Tsui’s character. BLEH.
This movie is of okay standards, not a blockbuster and not anything near Donnie Yen's awesome portrayal of Ip Man. The movie movie hovers round a few characters only, and the storyline lacks. One may leave the cinema not understanding the gist of the show. But all is compensated with Wu Chun! Haha.

Bodyguards and Assassins 《十月围城》

We went to watch Bodyguards and Assassins at PS today, 10.30a.m show, super early.


The movie was not too bad; the fighting scenes were gruesome yet powerful. I like it how ordinary commoners like rickshaw pullers, entertainers, hawkers and beggars can come together with the rich and influential, and are willing to sacrifice themselves out of friendship, loyalty and country pride. I cried so many times during the movie, I don’t really like it when innocents die while the baddies continue going around killing more innocents :( boohoo~ It's funny to see Jacky Cheung appear for a few seconds in the beginning of the movie, then dying in a very anti-climax fashion. Leon Lai was this weirdo begger who miraculously got his messy hair all straightened out after a bath. Eric Tseng acted as a policeman with this hideous Bollywood style mustache. I especially like the acting of the old guy who acted as 李玉棠, his eyes portrayed emotions beyond words. If only the character重光 survived. HAIZ. Go watch, it's a nice movie.

Revenge of The Fallen- Transformers 2

Went to watch Transformers 2 today with Ken and Liz after much persuasion from Ken. I cheated and paid only $6 for the movie tickets at Century Cineplex (? - I thought it was Shaw, paiseh) pretending I’m still a student. The queue at Tampines Mall’s Golden Village was too long, so we went to Century Square instead.

Halfway into the movie, I FELL ASLEEP. It’s jinxed. Really, how can I possibly fall asleep, for both Transformers 1 and Transformers 2? I gather that it’s totally jinxed, if not, then the story just doesn’t engage me. I like the effects, I like the cars, I like how handsome Optimus Prime is, I like the adorable Twin cars, but the storyline sucks.

I’m not a professional critic, but if this blockbuster can’t keep me awake in the cinema, I can totally understand why they call this the worst reviewed blockbuster in history. Even High School Musical could keep me entertained. Another downside of the movie was that it was too lengthy. 2.5 hours of ‘cling cling’ and ‘clang clang’ were too much for my eardrums. Sparks and metal parts filled the screen, it was overwhelming, and maybe I fainted. I don’t know, but when I came back to my senses, Optimus Prime is dead. I asked Ken if Optimus died, he said ‘Yes’, and I cried. I cried cos’ I thought I paid $6 to see the most handsome die so soon. Nah, kidding. I cried out of sympathy. Hehheh.

I hate it when they incorporate too much reality into this Sci-Fi show. There’s the US army, navy, air force… even President Obama is mentioned! Like Hello? The last time I know, we didn’t have robots from a faraway universe in alliance with the United States trying to defend this world against other robots from the same faraway universe that are trying to take down the Sun. Too much realism kills the excitement and fantasy. A Sci-Fi should remain a Sci-Fi; superheroes should remain anonymity no matter what.

The movie lacked a strong storyline. I need not ask my brother(who watched it twice) any questions about the movie because there wasn't even a need to think! Things just happen so fast with such big impacts without much reasons.

I don’t understand why is this sequence named ‘REVENGE OF THE FALLEN’, when ‘The Fallen’ only wakes up at the last 5 minutes of the movie after a thousand-year-old nap. I believe ‘Revenge of The Deceptors’ would name a more suitable name. Perhaps they should come up with a parody called ‘Revenge of The Consumers’ soon.

I can only conclude that, the Boys watch it for the robots, the Men watch it for Megan Fox, and all females young and old watch it after being pulled in by their male counterparts.

Movie: Taken

When your father says something is good, that thing is good. Never doubt what your parents say, for they have experienced much more in life than you.

My Dad rented the DVD of Taken, and life has since became different.

He has watched it so many times, he can recite the lines of the movie for you.

After much insistence, I watched the movie. Surprisingly, it's quite good.

I have always wanted to roam around the world on my own, to experience the roughs out there.

Daddy will always say, "Don't be silly, don't ever travel alone."

I will always rebut, "I don't care."

But after watching the movie, I understand his refusal to let me travel alone.

Perhaps I've become paranoid, like how he is.

Perhaps I've come to realise that the world isn't such a beautiful place after all.

Perhaps, perhaps.

The movie is great, not because of the effects, but great because of the storyline.

One's naiveness may lead to hell.

One's persistence may cause immense trouble.

One heed of advice may prevent nasty outcomes.

One's maturity will bring one to great distance.

One DVD can cause one's Dad to turn into a philosopher. But I'm not complaining.

Thank you for that great movie.

Met Wanling, Agnes and Eunice at McDonald’s for lunch. Listened to gossips from Agnes and Eunice about their classmates. Their classmates just seem like Hollywood movie characters that had come to live, typical personalities at seemed almost like stereotypical caricatures. From Bimbos to Himbos, you name it you’ll have it. There is even a ‘philosopher’ who has got a never-before record. Quite cool, but really irritating.

Went back to NYJC to collect A' Level cert. NYJC is becoming more commercialized. Coin-changing machine, sandwich dispenser, message chair(!!!) They put a shopping mall in the school already! The school is too rich, way too rich. I’m one poor fella here, how about donating some wealth to me, your fellow ex-student?

Took the Circle Line with Wanling to Bishan from Lorong Chuan, it is really very convenient, right outside the school.

Then went to Orchard Kino to meet Mui Teng. She bought a book called '芹仁关岛婚礼'. Haha. It’s Zax Wang and his wife’s wedding pictorial book. It's something sweet and romantic, any sweeter, you'll get diabetes. Quoted from Mui Teng "...super sweet.. I cannot eat anything too sweet le.." Seriously, I could see Mui Teng's eyes fill up with hearts and roses while reading that book! Haha.

We then walked around before proceeding to Dhoby Ghaut. That’s when a moment of epic failure happened. It was so very embarrassing that I've decided to share it with everyone.

Sometimes, not every girl wants to be Cinderella, especially when she is at the MRT station.

I dropped my shoe while climbing a flight of stairs at the MRT station. PAISEH until...

I was with Mui Teng at Dhoby Ghaut MRT station, on our way to Plaza Sing. Then, while walking up the stairs in the station, my shoe decided to get stuck onto a step and slipped out of my foot. Upon realizing that my shoe dropped out, I exclaimed, “Oh, 我的鞋掉了！". I turned backwards, and saw my lonely shoe on that stair, how embarrassing la. It would not be so embarrassing if there were no one around, but there was this man walking behind me, who presumably saw my shoe slipping out of my foot and heard me shriek in horror. I bent down and picked up my shoe immediately and walked off as fast as I could. Mui Teng laughed. I tried to laugh off my embarrassment, only to feel even more stupid.

Mui Teng then asked me, why don’t I let that guy pick up my shoe for me, cos’ he looked as though he was gonna pick it up for me. NO WAY!!! I have hands to pick it up, and am not rushing for time, besides, there was no carriage which was turning into any pumpkin. And that stranger guy should not be given an opportunity to think that he did something heroic, or worthy of being a Prince Charming. BLAAAAAA. Embarrassed.

Anyway, I watched Monsters vs. Aliens in 3D!!!

Cool yeah? Watched it with my ex-colleagues at The Cathay.

It is hilarious, but not fantastic.

It’s simply incomparable to other cartoony flicks such as The Incredibles or Finding Nemo, because Monsters lacked an engaging storyline.

I had a headache after watching it, probably due to the 3D effects. But I’m not complaining, because the effects were indeed quite cool.

Meteorites were flying around right before my eyes, for that moment I felt like a little kid again, in the Discovery Centre watching some 3D shows and reaching my hands out to touch the images that seemed to be flying towards me.

After watching the show, I felt empty again, as though I had gained nothing out of the two hours in the cinema.

I overhead some criticism of the movie when I was in the washroom, some Ah Lians said that the movie was ‘retarded’.

Even the Ah Lians thought the show was retarded, I think I should find another more intellectual word to describe this movie.

Ah, I found it, ‘Dumb’. Yeah.

Angels & Demons

Went to watch Angels & Demons today with my sister after roaming around in Tampines with her. It was the only option left as I don't want to watch some movies about noodle girl, Gu Gu the animal, or another retarded age-defying lame flick. I was skeptical about this movie initially, I even thought it was a cheesy thing to watch a movie adaptation of a novel.

Considering that I have never read the book before, or any of Dan Brown's works, I am a true idiot about the story. I entered the cinema having no idea at all of what I am getting.

The movie lost me in the beginning, as everything happened quite fast, and the scenes jumped incoherently. I see a group of experimentalists in a laboratory, and next, I see Tom Hanks and his receding hair line and being half-naked in a swimming pool. Then the lines went from English to Italian, leaving me all confused.

BUT, the storyline is actually quite exciting and engaging, revolving around the all so familiar GP topic, God VS Science. AHA! A topic much debated about. That's when I got back to track.

However, why didn't the producers explain or at least put more emphasis on the ambigrams? Aren't the ambigrams the essence of the whole story???

Not only that, the movie is also heavily edited. It has been cut short so much that I get scenes that appear almost abruptly. I want more, more, more!

Not complaining, just hoping that it could be better. (Really can't complain when tix only cost me $6)

It's good, go watch it.

Skeptics and haters, give this movie a chance, like how I've did. You won't be short-changed.

And surprisingly, I didn't fall asleep.

The Adventures Of Food Boy

Not all superheros fight crime, and Ezra uses his superpowers to do things more meaningful than what he initially believes.

Being a nobody in school, main character Ezra, hopes to gain some popularity and add meaning to life by vying for high school President.

Things then starts to get exciting when Ezra's hands begins to SHOOT out food spontaneously. Food such as peanut butter, beef and mustard.

Since its a 'talent', why not make full use of it? And Ezra got a brilliant idea of using his 'gift' to perform 'magic tricks' to gain popularity in school.

Ezra can choose to live with his 'gift' after the curse of the 59 days trail, or he can choose to give up his talent and live life as a normal teenage boy. He is rather torn between the two as his life has been disrupted ever since he realised his unforeseen talents.

High School Musical's Ryan Evans (Lucas Grabeel) stars as Ezra in The Adventures Of Food Boy in this Disney Channel production, showing audience another side of him. Lucas treats his acting opportunities seriously and really brings acting into another realm.

Food Boy is a TV movie so, really, do not expect anything more than an average plot with average actors. The story plot is really simple and a very easy watch, so everything was quite pleasant.

Something I really hate about it is the almost redundant commercial breaks which were less than 45 seconds each. I had to RUN to my room, can't even sit down in front of my computer for more than 15 secs and then RUN back to the living room. I see no point in that kind of commercial breaks la.

But please give a round of applause for the production crew, they dared to waste food and smash bread, mustard, meat, ice-cream and whatever you can think of all over the place.

The fun was more than anything, and that definitely made my Saturday night fun.

High School Musical 3: Senior Year

High School Musical 3: Senior Year ★☆☆☆☆

Okay, I went to watch this movie with my sister today. Seriously speaking, this final sequel is kind of disappointing. I could have spent that 112 minutes of my life doing something more meaningful, such as taking a stroll downstairs my house. Thank you very much, but no more High School Musicals for me. I do not understand why the kids in the movie are fussing so much over college life and where to go whatsoever. Sequence of events was so messed up and everything was rushed. Choreography of dances was not as interesting and explosive as the previous two, and the story line lacks. Probably everyone was just trying to end this fast, or perhaps the leads Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens just wanna put time away for themselves. Whatever it is, this movie is a little too bland for cinema standard. The only parts worth my watch were the parts of the theatrical performance and when Lucas Grabeel looked hot (but he looked very gay for most of the movie). As compared to HSM 1 and 2, HSM3 lacked the vibe, energy, hip, originality, elegance, warmth and connectivity. Audience were perhaps the last people on earth to feel the intensity of events in the movie, such as getting into a favoured college, parting with high school friends and hating that bitch who betrayed you. Oh, did I mention the obscurity of the plot? Why was there this extra female with that British accent in the movie?!? Her role was so unnecessary. Sharpay’s character as the villain is enough; we do not need two irritating blonds in a movie, especially when the impact is so little. I think the most memorable scenes of the show have got to be:
1. When Troy and Gabriella danced waltz in the rain. Everyone was just trying to see if her dress would fly high enough to expose her undies every time she twirled.
2. When Troy’s rusty pick-up truck coughs and smokes up. I swear that old pick-up has more screen time than many other actors in the show.
3. When Sharpay and that British girl danced and vied for the single spotlight. It was just so silly; I can’t help but remember it.

Oh, thank god these kids have graduated! No more wild cats, no more HSM!

Did I mention? I actually enjoyed watching HSM 1 and 2 on Disney channel years ago. Maybe I was still young then, yup, that's the reason.
