方大同-《可啦思刻》

After retail therapy, Edelyn is a happy kid again!
I bought Khalil Fong 方大同's Timeless album, 《可啦思刻》。

方大同's Timeless 可啦思刻.

I have no idea what ‘可啦思刻’is, but I'm guessing that it stands for 'Classical'. A search on the Internet tells me that 可啦思刻=可以‘啦’者唱的歌+思念时刻. Nice try.
All tracks in this album are covers of popular numbers such as You Are My Sunshine, Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You, Bad, 狂潮, La Bamba, 红豆, Georgia On My Mind, 记得, Wonderful Tonight and Moon River.
Oh, did I just name all ten tracks? Haha, sorry, but all are worth to be mentioned.
Well, frankly speaking, these covers are not as impressive as the originals, but they are still worth a listen. Well, just like a little fan singing his idols' classic hits in a karaoke lounge, I hear lyrics and techniques, however, some songs lack in emotions. [Bad -Michael Jackson], for example, is really mild, and leaves almost no impression on me even though I put the CD on repeat mode the whole night. [You Are The Sunshine Of My Life] has a querky start, but the the female voice (黄韵玲)of one line is really very random. [La Bamba -Ritchie Valens], like what Dad said, is weak compared to the original version, but again, it's Khalil's style. [Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You] sounds sweet and is rather catchy, a real timeless hit. [红豆 -Faye Wong] is a pleasant surprise, a slow melodic piece that is sure to capture one's attention. I personally like [Wonderful Tonight -Eric Clapton] a lot, okay, I admit that I love the original version, but Khalil's version has some sort of punch too that will make people want to listen to the song again over and over.
As the title of this album suggests, wonderful music pieces are Timeless and stays good forever. A little remix don't harm, be it good or bad. What Khalil is doing here is simply introducing good music to more people, using his popularity to let forgotten songs be remembered again.

Colbie Caillet's second album, Breakthrough. Haven't listened to this one yet, will do it during the weekends.

:)

That funny kid down the street.

Sometimes, I wonder is it Me who is too mature or that my Mum is very kiddy. She's like a 15 year old trapped in her body, always saying lame stuff and telling lame jokes. Haha, but she's like the coolest Mum ever.

Her sms to me just now:

Surprise! Dad n i are at cathay to watch District 9. Just to use the free ticket. Ken and Liz will ve mac for dinner.

!!!
She used 'Surprise!' to start her message, how cool is that?
Which mother in her sane mind will use 'Surprise!' to start a message for her daughter in this way? (Note the exclamation mark too)
Normal mums will use the 5 Ws 1 H, such as

  • 'Where are you now?',

  • 'What are you doing?',

  • 'Why are you not home yet?',

  • 'Who are you with?',

  • 'How are you settling your dinner?' etc.
Right? Those are the typical mums you can find everywhere, anywhere.

Notice my mum's use of short forms too, 'n' and 've'. Damn cool. My mum uses sms lingo!!! OMG, how cool can she be?

Of course, I can't let her win me, so I replied :

Surprise! I know that already. Cos' I'm msning with Liz.

My parents are just too cool to be true; going on a rendezvous and letting my siblings have junk food as dinner. How awesome.

Random.

Sian.

Whatever.

Tired.

Whatever.

Full.

*burp*

Union Day = Sleep-in Day

I woke up at 12 noon today. Haven't had such a shiok sleep for weeks.

Today is Union Day, so lessons from 10.30 to 2.30pm are cancelled.

I was actually going to meet Sarah today for lunch, but she fell sick and so lunch was cancelled too.

That's why I slept till 12nn. HAHA

Anyway, I'm trying to read my textbook now, but the more I read it, the more I feel like a zoologist. We have to study animal communications, and we learn how birds, bees, monkeys, apes etc. communicate. Then, even examples of Morphorlogy uses the words like 'birds' and 'cats'.

Too many things to read and understand, no mood to do so though.

Whatever. The rain is making me sleepy again.

ANYWAY, I gave myself a shock when I realised I have a MySpace account that was created in 2006. That's a freaking 3 million years ago la! I'm just puzzled why I don't have a single recollection of creating a MySpace account. It's so yesterday anyway. It's like my Facebook account, it's created in 2007 without my acknowledgement. Haha. All thanks to my cousin and my sister who found 'poking' people fun. My table in the hostel is so messy, like the table in my own room. Haha. Ok, this is getting random, like how my thoughts have been. I have French lesson again later in the day, exciting! Bye.

Mon nom francais est Catherine.

Je m'appelle Edelyn et mon nom francais est Catherine.
(I am Edelyn and my French name is Catherine.)

!!!

Ya, Katherine's daughter is Catherine. -.-'''

My French teacher gave us French names today so as to make his life easier.

He passed a list of names around for us to choose, and by the time the list made it to my my side of the class, not much names were left.

For convenience sake, I chose Catherine. Easy and impossible to forget.

Haha. I wonder if he will really address us by our French name. He'll probably stick to his French-style 'eeny meeny miny moe' to pick us for random one-to-one convos again. Haha.

Catherine, oh Catherine.

Stitch :)

Mummy bought this for me.
She said she liked it the moment she saw it and knew that I would like it too.
Indeed, I like it a lot :)
I have never watched Lilo & Stitch, but weirdly, I like Stitch a lot. Don't you find it cute? Haha.

-----------------------------------
Anyway, I love my weekends till the max!
Although I spend most of it in front of my television, I still think it's time wisely spent. Haha.
Nah, time out with my family is the best!
Went to Jack's Place for lunch (again) and shopped at Parkway.
I thought today was Sunday and gave Dad a scare when I said that I have to go back to campus tonight. Dad really got a shock and said "Not today right?"
I realised it's only Saturday and corrected myself, "I have to go back tomorrow."
Dad then said "I numb myself with work everyday just to wait for the weekends when you can come home and spend time with us.."
OMG, I'm feel like crying :(
I had tears in my eyes too when Dad said that in Jack's Place, but I don't like to cry in front of them over these mushy things, my brother will laugh till his ass falls off his body.
That's just how cute my parents are.

YELL! OW! water.

Bonsoir~

I have been having diarrhoea for quite a number of times ever since school started. I gathered it could be the food or the water that's not too clean. May, however, thinks it's because I'm still not used to things here, that's why. Well, that could be a reason, or maybe I'm just too kancheong over lectures and tutorials and uni life.

Talking about unclean water, I actually really am skeptical about the water here in NTU. It's yellow.
I'm talking about the water that comes out from the shower heads in the washrooms. Initially, I thought it was just the reflection of the wall tiles on the water that made it seem yellow, but upon more checks, I can confirm that the water coming out from the shower heads indeed have a faint yellowish tinge. This means that the water pipes are rusty.
Every time I shower, I don't know if I'm cleaning myself or coating a layer of rust on myself instead. I think I'm just dirtying myself even more whenever I bathe. No wonder I feel itchy.

Oh oh oh, there's an SVC box here in the lounge of the hall. I thought it wasn't working, but actually it works fine, just that it only has sports channels in it. To me, it's as good as nothing. I don't watch sports unless it's like Olympics or something. Sian.

Haaa, tutorial today on Academic Writing was really really fun. Our tutor is this funny man who simply comes from Planet Laugh. Two hours of lesson in his class zoomed by in a series of laughter. HAHAHA. I laughed so much, I can't remember what I learnt in class today. HeeHee.

Okay, that's so random. I shall go read my French notes now, goodbye.

You call these news?

Just saw this poll on sg.msn.

Don't you just like it when even poll results may be doctored just because issues we're dealing with are sensitive? This issue is indeed very sensitive. But at least on the other hand, this shows just how successfully the adcovation of Equality in Singapore is.

Another thingy on the website that caught my eye.

Lady Gaga - More than meets the eyes. Yah, hairs that caught my eyes.

What the heck is wrong with Lady Gaga and that crap thing on her head? Who wears purple-streaked hair bows on their heads? Is she going to present herself to someone as a Christmas gift? Even Santa will be angry. She just looks like an excessively hairy Hello Kitty.

Really, Gaga is gaga. Her names explains it all. Check out the proper definition of GAGA on Dictionary.com

gaga

-adjective Informal

1. Excessively and foolishly enthusiastic (on dolling herself up)

2. Ardently fond; infatuated (with herself, I suppose)

3. Demented, crazy, dotty. (Exactly)

&

Ga.ga

adj. Informal

1. Silly, crazy ('Lady Gaga' sounds more catchy than 'Lady Silly' and 'Lady Crazy', although fans really won't mind nobody really cares whichever of these 3 are used)

2. Completely absorbed; infatuated or excited (again, on herself)

3.Senile, doddering (Need I say more?)

[French, Old Fool, Gaga, of imitative origin]

Totally agreed.

HAHAHA.

Oh, I'm just SOOOO mean.

BUSY.

Yeah, very busy day. Had lessons the whole day.

But I've made a wise decision today, to drop my Chinese elective! WOOHOO!

Er, maybe I shouldn't sound so elated. Yay!

Haha. I had Language and Society in Chinese today at 9.30am, and struggled hard to stay focused during the lesson. It was simply too tough to understand the study of Sociolinguistics in Mandarin. That 2-hour lecture passed by painfully, and I'm just glad that it's all over (for me, at least. Haha)

I'm also doing a kind act by dropping my elective and giving it to this girl who wants it so badly.

:)

I do like Chinese, and the reason why I'm dropping this elective is because I don't want to end up hating Chinese at the end of this course simply because I do not like to learn things in the medium of Mandarin.

To me, Mandarin Chinese should be appreciated as a language and something with a rich history, not as a medium to study about the 'forces that languages have upon the society'. Besides, I'm already studying that in my Major. The Chinese elective is really Linguistics in Chinese. So there's no point for me to go through the same lesson twice in both English and Chinese.

I'll just stick to French this semester, I believe this alone will drive me nuts soon. Good luck to myself.

X

Can't think of a title, shall leave it as X.

Had French lesson today, interesting, but extremely tough too.

Textbooks and notes are just reducing my monetary assets so very mercilessly.

I have Chinese lesson tomorrow, haven't touched that language for around two years already. Although I'm quite sure I've not returned them to my Chinese teacher yet, but I'm pretty sure they need some oiling, they are rusty.

Okay, au revoir people, go sleep, while I will continue to read my “结构”语言学与“功能”语言学的重心比较 reading.

30km/hr

And my beautiful weekends are gone, as abruptly as how I started my blog post.

I was dead-tired during the weekends, sleeping as much I as could, trying to recover from my weariness of school.

Having driving lessons early in the morning of my weekends are just shortening my life, maybe I should cancel those on Sunday mornings.

I had a driving lesson at 8.30am this morning, and I was super super sleepy. I was travelling at 30km/hr on the roads outside the circuit. That meant that I was DAMN SLOW. My instructor kept telling me to drive faster, but I didn't even have the energy to step any harder on the accelerator. The last time I felt so tired was after my A'Levels.

After lunch, I slept all the way till 4pm. I was so tired, I didn't even dream. Maybe even my brain was taking a nap.

Anyway, I'm back at the hostel now, printing notes.

I need to sleep soon, I'm such a pig!

Home sweetest home

After one week of hall life, I'm finally going to sleep on my own bed in my own room again!

Anyway...

Today, I did what I do best again, escaping. I'm starting to hate myself for being such a horrible kid, but I can't help it, I just can't seem to adapt to such things yet.

Anyway, I received a confirmation email today that my appeal for an elective was successful, French level One. I'm so going to crash and burn with these electives.

I'm at home now kiao-ing my kah and watching Discovery Channel, Crime Night or something. I miss my television sooooo much. Hall life can be fun, as you get to do whatever you want, but there's no TV and no sister/brother/mother/father whom you can disturb, so it can get rather boring. Haha.

And I can finally sleep early tonight! Woohoo!

Haiz, but before I get too happy about being at home, there's driving lesson in the morning tomorrow! Sian.

Thursday, August 13, 2009

Body clock gone haywired.

I used to go to bed at 10-11pm, but nowadays, I'll only turn off the lights after 2am. When you stay in hall, 'the night is still young' applies every single night. You can have people walking around at 4am, and that's not because they woke up early, but because they've not even gone to bed yet.

I'm going to sleep early today, at 1am! Haha.

Okay, let me start my story-telling about my day today.

Today was... I don't know. Not exactly horrifying, nor was it awesome.

  • Missed a library thingy today, not deliberately though, we went to the library, but couldn't find anyone in-charged of the thingy, so we left after waiting aimlessly for 30 minutes.
  • Went to McDonald's for lunch, ate the 'hottest chick in town' - McSpicy. That wasn't thought by me, it's McDonald's tag line for McSpicy!
  • Then, went for a one-hour lecture that was simply agonizing. I had to force myself to stay awake the entire hour. It's a lecture on Academic Writing. Need I elaborate more? Haiz.
  • Went to the campus's Popular bookstore to buy my textbooks after the lecture, they cost me $69. Poor old me became even poorer.
  • Had not so nice dinner at Canteen 9 with my hall mates. 酸辣面 just tastes flat as compared to 麻辣面. I shall find a day and go food-hunting in campus!
  • Played Captain's Ball at night during the Hall's Inter-Block games and I have 4 blisters underneath my feet now. At least they didn't play with food like what they did last night which was just disgusting.
  • Washed the clothes again, my clothes were extremely stinky.

My days are filled with so many things done, I feel I've spent a month in NTU already!

Tomorrow is Friday, I have no lessons on Fridays, but there's a Linguistics party at 3pm. Dress code: 'Summer wear'. Footnote: 'Be there, or be a coconut'.
I'm going for it, not because I don't want to be a coconut, but because Dad would be able to fetch me home after that! Muah Haha.

Okay, goodnight.

---edit---
I'm just thinking, at the rate I'm updating my blog, I can publish tabloids already. Too much, too soon, too entertaining. HAHA.

MJ's CDs

I bought 2 CDs yesterday, Michael Jackson's commemorative albums, The Essential and Michael Jackson & Jackson 5.

Yeah... Gonna drown myself in his music now.

Hmm..

This week of school is rather relaxing, there are only lectures. The only problem is finding our way around the campus, this school is too big and the public/chartered buses' routes are simply too confusing. I must really bestow kudos to my cousin lor, my uncle said that my cousin walks from his Hall to his Accountancy building.

I was just chatting with Mum on MSN just now,

katkat says:

you know how to walk to hall 13 now? is it far?

Edelyn says:

it;'s impossible(for me) to walk there. i take bus instead.

katkat says:

then da jiu misjudged the distance

Edelyn says:

dunno leh, maybe if walk in the forest area can reach la, cos' its only around 3 bus stops away.

katkat says:

take bus lah. why be Jane and walk in the jungle!

Only my Mother can think of that la! She's damn funny.

Okay, I'm going to go back and see what electives can I still add and drop. ZaiJian.

------edit------

More print screens of my conversation with my Mum on MSN.

Really, my Mum is damn funny.

Hall Bash @ Zouk

Maybe I shouldn't make the title of this post sound so exciting, maybe I should change it to 'Stoning @ Zouk' instead.

I didn't plan to go for the Hall Bash initially, as I didn't even attend Hall Camp, but May told me she has an extra ticket at the very last minute and so I went for it, thinking that it might be fun.

YA, and all the fun I had was looking at how awfully drunk people can get themselves to, and the silly monkey acts they were doing being drunk.

I was simply like a block of ice in Zouk, just sitting on some steps looking at people bobbing their bodies to the music. If anyone thought that I was being very anti-social, I'm sorry, I'm just being myself, and not wanting to make myself look like a fool.

I'm sorry to those around me, they tried to warm and melt the layer of ice shied on me, but only to get diseased by my aloofness.

May was with me most of the time, sharing the same thoughts on how people can actually find the blasting music a sense of enjoyment. To us, it was mere pain to the ears and stress to the hearts.

We took the chartered bus at 1.30am and reached NTU at around 2am. I had to lug myself to the shower room and bathe. This very moment as I'm typing out this blog post, my roommate, Tricia, has yet to come back. She's probably still bobbing to Rihanna's distorted remix of Umbrella now.

Whatever, clubbing is just not for me, I looked extremely out of place and felt like being in another world. Well, I don't care and will not try to fit in anyway, as people of that world can only drink and bob and shout and puke.

I really don't know how people can get drunk when they drink vodka with soft drink. Like hello? We saw a girl really dead drunk and had to be carried out by two guys, how glamorous.

Okay, forget it, I shall stop ranting about this. And OMG, it's only the first day of school.

!!!

I have checked in to another phase of my life.

SCHOOL IS STARTING! LIKE FINALLY!

Weirdly, I actually DO feel homesick leh.

I am listening to Y.E.S 93.3 again, after a hiatus of about 3 years. Used to listen to the radio in primary school and secondary when I'm studying, but stopped when I got hooked onto CDs instead. Stupid me actually forgotten to bring my CDs to the hostel, so I'm stuck with fm radio.

Oh whatever. I think my sister is having a great time now sleeping in the big room of ours, with the air-con turned on and having a sweet sweet dream. Her sister, ME, has to sleep in a stuffy room tonight. Ironically, Y.E.S 93.3 is playing Fahrenheit's 夏雪(Summer Snow?) now.

This is just the beginning, more surprises are lined up for me and I will welcome them with open arms. HAHAHA.

HOSTEL.

I'm moving into hostel on Monday (tomorrow) and I'm trying to pack my one million and one things to bring into the hostel. Anyway, I went back yesterday with Tricia to clean up the room, and took some pictures of it.

This is the door. Like obviously.
Inside the room.
One cupboard each.
The furnitures are new! All thanks to the youth Olympiads who will be using the rooms next year during the Youth Olympic.
Inside the cupboard.
The bed and the study table. Looks quite decent. I'm taking the right side of the room.
Miss Tricia To and her side of the room.
The flooring is parquet-designed floor paper. HAHA. It used to be cemented ground. Again, all thanks to youth Olympiads.
The shoe rack.

The view from the window is actually not bad compared to other rooms which could see only trees and nothing else.
The air-con which is installed for the youth Olympiads(again), but it cannot be turned on.
They locked up the switch for the air-con. The black thing.
Cool eh?

That's where I'll spend the next of my 5 months until the holidays.
Exciting right? Yah, if only I can bring in my television and SCV box set that's it.
So, to prevent myself from losing my addiction towards the TV involuntarily, I shall get my daily dose of the tube on youtube instead. Hehheh.

Laughter Time. Again.

This is just so funny, I feel bad not putting it up. Haha.

I was at East Point Mall last month before my health check at CGH, and there was a pageant thingy going on.

Check out what the contestants have on their hair while doing the catwalk!

CURLERS!

AHAHAHAHA!

This should be during the rehearsal, that's why the curlers are still there.
It's sooooooooo funny can? I really must applaud the ladies for their macho-bravery in doing that.
I won't be caught dead with a single curler in my hair on the streets la!
