台北~ 基隆~ 九份~

I am so so so tired! But still so so so very happy.
Taiwan is such a nice country, the place here is great, the people here are extremely courteous, and the food here is super super shiok.

On the 11th June, the weather was very threatening. News the previous were reporting that there will be a heavy downpour the whole day. That dampened my spirits quite a bit. Afraid of inconvenience, we restricted ourselves to Taipei. We roamed around Taipei, went to Heritage and Culture Centre of Taipei City, 龙山寺 (Long Shan Temple), 国父纪念馆 (Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall), Taipei Discovery Centre, New York New York, 诚品Eslite, then we took the 捷运 (MRT) to 淡水渔人码头 (Tamshui Fisherman Wharf), and 士林夜市 (Shi Lin Night Market). So many places in a day! I’m too tired, so I will just upload a few pictures. Maybe I will upload the rest up onto my blog or Facebook on another day.
龙山寺。
The LED lights!!!
How high-tech right???
Haha. It has its own website too!

In 龙山寺, look how many joss sticks the locals each take! My parents only use 1 each, the locals take by the dozens! So smoky. Haha.

In Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall. He was the ground breaker of my Project Work. It started raining heavily when we reached the memorial hall.

Most bins in Taiwan are separated into recyclables and trash. Note that the recycling sign is different from our 3 arrowed triangles sign!

Taipei 101.
Skies finally cleared a little. There was still drizzle though.

At 淡水渔人码头Fisherman Wharf. It's a very beautiful place with nice scenery and ambiance.

XXXL Fried Chicken鸡扒。It's bigger than Liz's face. And super delicious too!

This is the crazy stall I saw in 士林夜市ShiLin Night Market. They sell idol merchandies, including pillow cases, fans, mouse pad, bags etc. I didn't buy anything from this shop, I'm not so seow. Haha.

12th June 2009.

We booked a cab to get us to 基隆Keelong area today. That cab driver is very nice, and knowledgeable.

First up, we went to 忠烈词 (Taipei Martyr's Shrine).

Then we proceeded to 耶柳地质公园YeLiu Geopark.

The famous Queen's Head Rock.

。。。槟榔西施。。。

I still can't believe the fact that I actually tried a 槟榔(Betel Nut). ‘台湾口香糖’(Taiwanese chewing gum) is what the locals refer these as.
The green thing is the betel nut. The brown thing is a dried mango(i think) which is eaten together.
You only swallow the sap/juice of the nut after chewing it, then you spit it out.

Your tongue and lips will turn red if chewed too long. Cool right? haha.
Then we went to 九份, a mountainous area. It's not yet quite developed, but has parts opened up to tourists, selling souvenirs which really doesn't need to be bought.
This waterfall at the back is known as the 黄金瀑布 (Golden Waterfall), it's doubted as such due to the colour of the rocks and water. It used to be a gold/metal mine, where workers dug for metals in the rocks. This place is now abandoned. The water then eroded the rock sediments and rust the metallic minerals in the rocks, causing it to turn into an orangey hue.
We had dinner at a night market in Keelong. Ate A LOT of great food! I think my mouth has never stopped moving since I reached Taiwan. I'm always putting something into my mouth every now and then. Haha
After dinner, our cabby drove us back to Taipei, and we continued to shop at Carrefour, and Edelyn is too tired to continue so she will continue typing and updating again soon.
GOODNIGHT :)
