Anthony Neely, Lesson One

I've been listening to a lot of songs recently. A LOT.
But nothing can be as addictive as this one here.
(Anthony Neely), an American-Chinese mixed.
First showed the world his amazing singing talent (and cute looks) in singing competition, One Million Stars 〈超级星光大道〉. First person to score a whopping 33 points out of 25 in the singing competition, becoming an overnight sensation.
First album, First Lesson 《第一课》, debuted on 19th Nov 2010.

The first time I saw Neely sing on One Million Stars, I was telling myself how this ang moh will definitely make it even if he sang the most distasteful songs in the music scene, because his selling point is not his vocals, but his looks. One smile is all that it takes to kill. His ability is sing is just an added bonus to that gorgeous face. Call me superficial, well, I am (in this case).
Okay, before judging Neely as a himbo here, I will justify and credit him for this album, unbiased.
Contributing lyrics to two tracks and co-composing melody for one in his first album shows that Neely is not just a sugar-coated candy, but someone with the substance and the ability.
In a terribly KPOP saturated environment we are in now, we really something fresh and different, and Neely fills in nicely.
Being a power-packed newbie in this music scene, Anthony Neely is here to leave an indelible ink, a lasting impact.

Recommended tracks: Sorry That I Loved You, 末日快乐,散场的拥抱,绅士

What I'm listening to recently...

Haven't done this in a long time, so long so that I feel myself distant from it.
There's just no time. No time even to listen to an album without distractions.
Anyhow, here's what I'm listening to recently:

Happiness by HURTS
Katy Perry - Teenage Dream
Marie Digby's Breathing Underwater

Not exactly new, not exactly hits, but definitely worth a listen.

If I have the time, I'll prolly do proper reviews for these.

No. Eleven & Glee- The Power of Madonna

Bought another CD!!!
Couldn't resist the temptation of this.
Hins Cheung,

For the eighth thousand times, 张敬轩 is a guy, not a girl. His name sounds like a girl's name, I know. Even Felicia Chin has a same-sounding Chinese name too.
But, having a girlish-sounding name doesn't mean that he can't sing, eh.
This is his eleventh album, my forth of his to my collection.
This album is not too bad, with a strong distinctive 'Hins' style in it.
Karaoke time!

Lizzie pok bought Glee- The Power of Madonna.
These are obviously cover tracks of Madonna's hits, a tribute to the megastar for granting Glee rights to her entire catalogue of music.
What an awesome way of PUBLICITY.
If you are a huge fan of Glee, you'll probably wanna buy this seven-tracked album and then sing and dance along da music.
Glee is addictive. Look at my sister, her eyeballs scream GLEE every time I look into her eyes. She eats sleeps talks Glee every minute now. tsk tsk tsk.

Reason to why I am always broke.

Made a mad purchase of six CDs within two days not too long ago. Call me insane!

Okay, I didn't exactly pay for them all myself, most are shared with my sissy. She's becoming like me, tsk tsk tsk.

Jacky Cheung's 'Private Corner'. Bought it for mummy as her birthday present. It's almost entirely Jazz, easy to the ears and very very 'upper-class' sounding. No more cheesy Cantopop for the God of Songs! Yeah! Haha. A little disappointment that there are no self-penned songs in this album, but who cares! At least he opened his mouth to sing once again and insert vibe in (once again shall I mention) the dying music scene of Hong Kong.
Recommended tracks: ALL, but I do have a personal favourite, [

Glee! Hello all kids out there! Missing those days where you'd sing and dance along to High School Musical on Disney Channel? Well, don't be sad that HSM has gone into the Museum of Past Tense, because there's the even more awesome ‘GLEE’ now! For those who don't know what Glee is, please give yourself a slap. GLEE has been showing/ is still showing/ will be showing on Star World (ch. 18 on SCV) for quite some time. It’s a TV series targeted to young people, so please go watch it and save your old souls. Songs done in the show are cover versions of hits such as ‘Take a bow’- Rihanna, ‘No Air’-Jordin Sparks and ‘Keep Holding On’- Avril Lavigne, just to name a few. Everything’s quite nicely done, although vocals sound amateurish. But, I won’t complain. Sincere and cheap entertainment for the win! Two volumes for double joy!
Recommended tracks: ‘Don’t Stop Believing’ – It isn’t the theme song for no reason.

Nick Jonas & The Administration's Who I Am. Lizzie wanted it, not me. Alright, I admit that the album’s cover did make me want to buy it and devour it whole. Nick Jonas simply looks a lot cooler and more professional without his brothers next to him. Bringing with him a band called The Administration, Nick Jonas is out to blast out the ears and hearts of young girls. Music composed does have some standards or two, lyrics are poetic too, what’s probably letting down is the undeniable weak vocals of Jonas. There are some point into the songs where he seems almost to the point of breaking a note. Liz will probably chop my head off when she reads this, but seriously, no criticism means no improvements, yeah?
Recommended tracks: ‘Who I Am’ (The mv for this song is nicely done, go watch it), ‘State of Emergency’, ‘Vesper’s Goodbye’

Leona Lewis’s Echo! I finally bought it after pondering for a million years. Powerful vocals bring you on a musical journey through several octaves that sound awfully easy to Lewis. Songs are quite distinguishably different and are all above the standards of what that makes a ‘hit’. That’ll probably mean that Leona’s music is here to stay for quite a while! Not forgetting to mention, there’s a hidden track in this album, Stone Hearts and Hand Grenades. Nice surprise!
Recommended tracks: Again, I’ll probably start naming all. But currently, I’m hooked onto ‘Lost Then Found’ –With OneRepublic.

OneRepublic’s Waking Up. Another gem which I bought only after the entire world got sick and tired of it. Actually, I’ve been very addicted to ‘All The Right Moves’ for a long long time, but nothing made me think that I should buy this album. It was only when I heard ‘All This Time’ then did I finally make the decision to buy this album. Well, no regrets! I may be slow, but at least I realised. Imagine how tragic it would be if I were to waste life away in this sad university without the comfort of good music, life would definitely be a mistake.
Recommended Tracks: ‘Secrets’, ‘Good Life’, ‘All This Time’, ‘Marchin On’

Okay, spending a few hours away from school work and listening to music is really the best thing you can do to reward yourself for being a slave to school work.
I'm currently on a thrift programme (set by myself) to save money and buy a camera (Yes! Another one!). Until then, no more  less impulsive buying of CDs.
HEE.

《All About Rynn

YAY!

I am the happiest kid now.
Aunty Nina bought me 林宇中's CD from Malaysia a few days ago.
I have been waiting and waiting for it to go up the racks in Singapore for a few weeks already, but I can't wait any longer!
So I told mummy to ask aunty Nina to buy it from me from Malaysia. And WOOHOO!
She bought it!!!
Wa Ha Wa Ha Wa Ha Wa Ha Wa Ha! Happiness is beyond words.
Even though I sat for a sucky paper today, and will most probably get sucky grades for it, I feel better after listening to the music. Although there are only 5 new songs in this compilation album, it's better than nothing. It has been a long wait since his previous album.
Oh, what an easily contented child I am. :)

Anyway, there's this really meaningful song in the album. I love the lyrics.

p.s. Rynn's latest album is in stores in Singapore already. I saw it in Jurong Point's Gramophone, selling at $20.95.

---------

And, before I forget, I also want to show off 2 other albums I bought recently.

AHAHAHA!
It looks as though they are looking at each other! Haha.

刘力扬's album is a mini album with only 5 songs, quite a disappointment, as her previous album raised my expectations rather high. 《寂寞光年》and《礼物》shares the same melody, just with different lyrics. 《一个人就好》,《梅花香》and《寂寞光年》(of 双子星) are all songs of tv drama series. 《崇拜你》is a weird unique song written by Tanya Chua that sounds freakishly like Tanya. 《礼物》's lyricist is the singer herself. Her singing is like always, good. But I think everyone expected more. If Yoga Lin could have such a power-packed second album, I see no reason why the LiYang's album is like that...
Songs recommanded by ME: 《礼物》

Next is Evan Yo's album. His third, and probably his best up to date. There's a sense of maturity in his songs now, which is a good thing. I don't know why, but 《发光的简讯》sounds oddly like 《城里的月光》,and 《Hey!》sounds very much like Chris Brown's [With You]. 《你看不到的天空》is rather nice, and of course 《寂寞,好了》is another up-to-expectations track. Not many people can take Evan's thin and powerless vocals. My brother can't stand Evan's singing. To be fair, he is not the best singer out there, but all I can say is that his voice is very distinctive, which can be good. And, what's important is that there has been improvements.

Okay, I'm done with reviewing. Hoping onto my bed in 3,2,1.
zzzZZZ.

This is really a much anticipated album. Yoga’s previous album was released in July last year, and it’s a 16-month wait before his second album [Senses Around] is finally released. Firstly, I want to comment about his album casing. It comes in a big zip-lock bag, nicely sealed with a small transparent sticker with the words ‘Senses Around Yoga Lin’. Cool eh? Then, then inside the zip-lock bag is a pictorial showcase of the album. Four big double-sided posters make up the album’s ‘case’ and a cardboard makes the backing and the CD-holder. Everything looks nicely designed, and there’s not a single scrap of plastic besides the zip-lock bag which holds the album itself. That’s one plus point from me, as it is environmental-friendly being plastic-less. And the whole album itself is made up of posters, meaning that materials are saved and it’s really an innovative move! Okay, next up is the actual music review from me, a highly biased reviewer. Haha.

1) 关于我 ( Something About Me)-
Being only 1:54 minutes long, this track does not really make up to a song, but more of an extra long introduction prelude to the rest of the album. Static sound effects make this song sound old and vinyl-like. For the first time I heard this track, I thought there were problems with my earphones. A simple and blend-sounding track that has ‘关于我’repeating an awful amount of times, otherwise, it is a not too bad intro.

2) 解High人 (The Spoiler)-
Lyrics depict the life of a social outcast, yet, they are portrayals of Yoga’s life. The retro-styled melody with self-ridiculing lyrics accompanied with half-past dead emotions in the singing makes this song special in its own way. Especially like the lyrics快了快半拍/悲哀慢半拍/慢吞吞徘徊在民调之外…

(You Are What You Eat)-
Third song into the album and it’s still a retro-styled song. Woogie-boogie, that’s how they call it. I call it Weird. It sounds very unlike the mainstream music genres of the modern, and seems that they intend to stay this way, being different from the rest. 穿裙子的男生/举哑铃的女生 sounds like the weird-ass social phenomenon now. 我爱素也爱荤sounds like me. Apart from reflecting the society now, this song is also bringing across the message of accepting things that goes along, not to be an icky-picky. For all you know, that dumbass you’ve just talked to could be your next biggest inspirer in life.

(Deaf In Love)-
What’s the point of listening when honesty cease? What’s the point of continuing when hearts no longer connect? A love ballad that seems too heavy to digest, this song describes a messed up situation love has gotten into. I once asked friends would they rather lose their sight or their hearing, I get mostly ‘hearing’. They believe that without sight, that’s doom. But I chose sight, for the exact reasons mentioned in the song, I have always felt hearing as the more important sense as compared to sight, with fear that with only sight left, I will see the ugliness of the world; this world of façade, this world of hypocrisy. 没死不代表活着, bringing emotions and thoughts to a higher level altogether.

(Gone With The Wind)-
This song is just like how the title sounds, with the winds. A lingering tinge of sorrow, an empowering feel of emptiness, and a tipsy whimpering voice singing out the lost of what’s lost. There’s a strange feeling of being in a vacuum when listening to this song, you’ll feel almost as lost and empty.

(Fairy Tale)-
What got me hooked onto this song is actually the music video of it. It is not anything of a high-cost production, but it’s beautifully crafted and wickedly painful. The lyrics of the song is deep too, Yoga sings Listen with your heart, and you will realize that you can actually hear which of these are ‘lies’ and which are ‘truths’. Amazing? He is impressive.

(Heartbreak)-
Another sad love song, Heartbreak describes lost love, lost time, lost age. (It’s not about being together forever, but having been in love). This song, however, blaringly sings out the opposite. Mourning about lost love, it’s more of an irreversible ending which the protagonist painfully hopes to forget, yet the more he tries to forget, the more he’ll remember. The perfect recipe for a Heartbreak.

(China Town)-
Having a cheena-looking name does not mean being cheena-sounding song, okay? Leehom may have called this type of genre ‘Chinked-out’, but well, it is different here. This song has a weird 90’s Cantopop feel, yet magically transforms into a rock song. Maybe Chinese Diasporas living outside China may feel a bit or two when listening to this song, Advice listeners to read the lyrics when listening to this song, because what make the song impactful are really the lyrics sung in the background.

(Hysteria)-
Heavily-hyped song, high and oh my, it’s as spontaneous as its title. On the verge of a mental breakdown is what Yoga sounds like here, But I was thinking that Yoga should be happier when singing this song, for some reasons he sounds as though he is kind of sick or tired.

(Another Me)-
Schizophrenic singing a song, to himself. I don’t know if I’m the one feeling tired, or is it really Yoga who is sounding tired. I no longer hear the vibe and excitement I get from him previously. He is almost like singing out the lyrics with a blank mind in this song. I don’t hear much emotion in this song, besides those which can be produced vocally. Hmm. Someone is feeling tired being two of himself.

(Sense)-
A rock song; a nicely arranged and written song, denying the idea that ending songs are supposed to be the least of the pack. I like this line a lot, 有那么多人在寂寞/就没有人寂寞 (when there are so many lonely people, no one is really lonely). The rather abrupt end to the song will probably force you to hit that ‘replay album’ button again and immerse yourself in another round of Yoga’s goodness once more.

Overall, this album did live up to expectations, at least mine, and is is is definitely a ‘must-buy’. I paid S$15 for this album only; CD-Rama sells it at S$15. I will pay $15 even for 《耳朵》alone. This album is rather heavy-packed; with 10 full tracks and one very hefty intro track (anyone generous will consider that as a full song on its own). So, take time to go through each and every song, with the lyrics paper on hand, of course. A chunky and meaty album like this can be indeed too much for one to bear, but for fans, this is one great present after a long 16-month wait.

Yay! I bought it!!! WOOHOO!

Hehheh. More music to drown my ears in. MUAH HAHA.
What interesting about this album is that the lyrics of all the songs in it are written by the same lyricist, 姚若龙. No wonder I sense similarity in the songs (words like 燃烧 and 灿烂 feels like they've been repeated in most songs), the songs have the same 'Strive on, do not give up' kind of feeling, if you understand what I mean. What's more interesting is that I actually prefer the faster songs in his album as compared to those soft and slow ballads that he usually does. Cool man! HAHA. I'm soooo HAPPY that I bought this album!! Yay yay yay.

Bought Eason Chan's new album, Still am listening to it. Wondering what the heck is wrong with the second track, sounds awful, yet weirdly, it sounds so happy. This is what you get when happy people make music happily; they enjoy themselves and care nothing about how they sound.

iTunes is not cooperating with me, again. There's close to 2000 songs in my iTouch, and the bloody iTunes is threatening to delete ALL when it syncs. POS.

Bet you this guy drinks. His vocals sounds husty, you know, husky and dusty. His higher notes sound so painful that I fear for his throat.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Drowned my ears with music.

Stitch couldn't be any happier.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

This morning, I was woken up by Tricia's words of distraught, "Power failure!!!"

Yea, there was a power trip this morning, and that left the room baking. Having fans that do not work is the same as seeing an oasis in a desert right in front of you but you are caged up or something. Thankfully, electricity was back after half-an-hour. It's just so inconvenient. The pantry at our level can finally be used! There's a water dispenser, which is great news. I just don't understand why they had to install a lock to the toilet. It's crazily inconvenient as well, and makes the toilet very stuffy and humid with the door closed all the time. Hoo~! Okay, I shall pack my bag and get ready for class. À Bientôt!

After retail therapy, Edelyn is a happy kid again!
I bought Khalil Fong 方大同's Timeless album, 《可啦思刻》。

I have no idea what ‘可啦思刻’is, but I'm guessing that it stands for 'Classical'. A search on the Internet tells me that Nice try.
All tracks in this album are covers of popular numbers such as You Are My Sunshine, Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You, Bad, 狂潮, La Bamba, 红豆, Georgia On My Mind, 记得, Wonderful Tonight and Moon River.
Oh, did I just name all ten tracks? Haha, sorry, but all are worth to be mentioned.
Well, frankly speaking, these covers are not as impressive as the originals, but they are still worth a listen. Well, just like a little fan singing his idols' classic hits in a karaoke lounge, I hear lyrics and techniques, however, some songs lack in emotions. [Bad -Michael Jackson], for example, is really mild, and leaves almost no impression on me even though I put the CD on repeat mode the whole night. [You Are The Sunshine Of My Life] has a querky start, but the the female voice (黄韵玲)of one line is really very random. [La Bamba -Ritchie Valens], like what Dad said, is weak compared to the original version, but again, it's Khalil's style. [Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You] sounds sweet and is rather catchy, a real timeless hit. [红豆 -Faye Wong] is a pleasant surprise, a slow melodic piece that is sure to capture one's attention. I personally like [Wonderful Tonight -Eric Clapton] a lot, okay, I admit that I love the original version, but Khalil's version has some sort of punch too that will make people want to listen to the song again over and over.
As the title of this album suggests, wonderful music pieces are Timeless and stays good forever. A little remix don't harm, be it good or bad. What Khalil is doing here is simply introducing good music to more people, using his popularity to let forgotten songs be remembered again.

Colbie Caillet's second album, Breakthrough. Haven't listened to this one yet, will do it during the weekends.

:)

Review

No time for lengthy critics, so I will settle for a summarised overview of Khalil Fong’s forth album, Orange Moon.

Truthfully, I used to despise Khalil Fong’s music. I found them cheesy and extremely hard to digest. With awkward twists and turns of tunes and tones, his instantaneous changing R&B style was just out-of-the-world for me. The sensational hit 〈爱爱爱〉became the theme song of the MandoPop in year 2007, but the after-effect was bad, I found it hard to accept a singer who sings in that sort of manner, the say-sing manner.

However, I was simply awed by Orange Moon. The album is packed with songs that are less dynamic(till you find them irritating) and really pleasant to the ears. The only setback is that his songs tend to revolve round the same genre, and one can get confused with another quite easily, or find that Khalil does not have enough creativity to create distinct features in each of his songs.
The first song in Orange Moon is 〈Singalongsong〉 which has simple lyrics with a really catchy tune. I fell in love with this sing-along song the very first time I heard it on a TV programme. Gosh, I might as well name the entire album! Haha. Then there’s〈三人游〉, which is almost like the sequel of 〈四人游〉from his previous album, it also has a quirky beat that will surely grab everyone’s ears and hearts. Now, now, now, whose album still has a hidden track in this era? Well, Khalil Fong’s has. After the last track of this album, 〈为你写的歌〉 (the Mandarin version of Singalongsong), at around 16 minutes, there is the hidden track. Presumably called 〈
Orange Moon〉 , this hidden track is the demo version of Eason Chan’s 〈倒带人生〉composed by Khalil himself. It’s definitely a sweet surprise to find that there is a wonderful song hidden at the very end of a very superb album.

Orange Moon (Hidden Track)

Review~

SonyBMG, you rock!

Since Jay Chou’s album ‘Capricorn’, SonyBMG (Singapore) has been producing cheaper versions of albums so as to counter attack the damn-cheap China parallel imported CDs. And when I say cheaper, I mean a whole lot cheaper. I paid $9.90 for my original Wang Lee Hom’s ‘Heart Beat’ album while the normal one costs $21.90. The cheaper one is simply packed with fewer goodies such as a having a normal plastic CD case and a thinner lyric book. For sound wise, it’s exactly the same. For suckers like me who feel the urge to lay our hands on every available CD, the more affordable ones are obviously more favoured. Of course, saints like me will never do illegal downloading of music off the Internet too, support original!!!

I shall go bury myself in my bed, grab the lyric book in my hand, turn on my stereo, and drown myself in LeeHom’s voice :)
Oh no, I’ve not even listened to Mayday’s album yet. Damn.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here’s my review on Leehom’s ‘Heart Beat’.

Leehom’s new album, ‘Heart Beat’, represent the different perspectives of music that he has. In his own words, the ‘Heart’ portion is more ‘emotional’ and more ‘introspective’; while the ‘Beat’ section, has more ‘strong, energetic, and rocking’ genres. In whole, this album can be said to be Leehom’s proudest, where he took charge of most of the production, including both music and lyrics.

Nice pun!

副歌部分的 “If you listen to the rhythm of the pouring rain” 雷同英文歌 “Rhythm of The Rain”。

‘Cause you’re my everything’ 听起来貌似英文歌 ‘You’re My Everything’,或许王力宏的音乐深造比较西洋化,所以歌曲都有英文歌的影子。

Review

Someone explain to me, why is Show Luo’s album so freaking expensive?!? 31 dollars for a ten-track album? That’s like paying 3 bucks for a song! That’s robbery. Unless you tell me there’s some goodies lying inside that weird plastic foil wrapper around his album. In order to save my wallet from going kaput, I bought the China parallel imported version of his album instead. This only cost me $12.90. HA.

歌词中的“Cause I Believe”很有韵味,怪不得歌词本里有一句‘Cause I Believe, I Can’。帅。

Review

9. 雨是眼泪- 翻唱瑞典歌手Darin Zanyar的英文歌‘Why Does It Rain’。

Beyoncé I am... Sasha Fierce

Beyoncé- I Am... Sasha Fierce Deluxe Edition ★★★☆☆

There are funnily 2 editions of this album, the standard, which has 11 tracks, and the deluxe edition, which comes with 5 extra tracks. Duh’ the Deluxe la.

Disc 1
[If I Were A Boy] – An interesting song with a very interesting name, especially in the era now when the androgynous reigns. Anyway, it’s a highly debated song, with netizens claiming that this song rightfully belongs to this lass named BC Jean, who apparently wrote the song and sang the demo… BC has the huskiest/roughest/sorest/sandiest voice I’ve ever heard. Some chronic-cough-with-copious-phlegm sufferer. No doubt, I prefer Beyoncé’s version by an entire lot.
Here's BC Jean's version:

[Halo] – Yeah, just like what the title says, Halo-ish and saintly, like an epiphany, where Stephen Dadelus meets bird girl. A smooth and pleasant song.
[Disappear] – It gets kind of irritating when songs of an album revolve round a same genre, and that’s what’s happening here. [Disappear] sounds very much like the previous track [Halo], with the same sort of singing techniques and equally-saintly lyrics.
[Broken-hearted Girl] – A song with more, but still lacks somehow. Slow R&B with a fairly catchy chorus, but let’s not waste Beyoncé’s powerful vocals with such mellow numbers. Something more exciting please.
[Ave Maria] – This song sounds almost like a church hymn, or probably it already is. Quite a pleasant song, with ultra-soothing effects.
[Smash Into You] – A punchy title, but yet another SOUL. That missed-a-beat singing technique is quite cool, but this song is quite empty, didn’t register in me.
[Satellites] – The Soul genre continues, and leaves me almost confused as it transits from the previous track to this. They sound sadly similar with not much surprise either. Beyoncé did this in an almost acoustic way, clear and simple, in other words, very hypnotic.
[That’s Why You’re Beautiful] – Another song that didn’t manage to leave any impression on me. Tunes are simple, lyrics are ordinary, after listening to it, and one will go “That’s it?” Sadly, yes. Apart from the awkward changing and stretching of notes, the song is hollow with no ‘soul’ in it, despite the lyrics saying “Diamonds used to be coal/ Look young cos’ they got soul/ That’s why they’re beautiful/ And my heart used to be cold/ ‘Til your hands laid on my soul…

Disc 2
[Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)] – A faster and catchy number. A definite hit, and I can envision clubs and lounges blasting this song on the dance floor!
[Radio] – Woo, so hip eh this song. “Think I’m in love with my radio/…/ I’d fall in love with my stereo…” and there’s more to it. Let’s ignore that cheesy lyrics, and just listen to this song with your brain turned off. Something that apparel stores like Dorothy Perkins and Topshop would play on repeat mode.
[Diva] – A song that truly gets onto one’s nerves. Besides constantly repeating “Now diva a female version of a hustla/ Of a hustla/ Of a, of a hustla” which is plainly irritating, another trashy line repeated excessively is “ I’m a, I’m a, a Diva”. That line is sung in a chipmunk-oh-im-so-cute voice, which seriously creates nothing cute, but migraine.
[Sweet Dreams] – A previous version of this song released to the public had the name “Beautiful Nightmare”. Not much significant difference between these two versions, just that the newer one has a line “Turn the lights on” which I personally feel sounds out of place. It’s still a good song, with a pinch of oriental essence in it.
[Video Phone] – Another electronic gadget, but not as oomph-y as [Radio]. This song sort of reflects the advancement of technology these days; a mobile phone is all you need to do EVERYTHING. “We can shoot the video right here on my cell phone/ you want me naked? /if you likin this position/ you can tape it/ on ya video phone”, yeah, and end up like Edison Chen.
[Hello] – A nice start, but loses soon after. HELLO? I want more from you Beyoncé! Just as the lyrics suggest, “You had me at hello.”
[Ego] – A super duper song. Haha. Look at those ambiguous lyrics, “Its too big/Its too wide/Its too strong/It wont fit/Its too much/Its too tough/…/I got a big ego/Such a huge ego”. Men, men, men. BIG ego, small BRAINS.
[Scared Of Lonely] – There is a disconnection somewhere in this song; the lyrics do not seem to fit the music. The music’s too loud for the Lonely, a security blanket perhaps? Wanted the last song to be more impressive, although it does have a boom, it leaves me hanging anticipating for more.

A satisfactory album, but definitely lacking in some sense and pales in comparison, especially to her previous singles such as [Listen] and [Irreplaceable] which are such impressive and awesome hits. Disc 1 is good for easy listening; Disc 2 is great on the dance floor. For me, I just want more.

SONYBMG, give me a reason for asking me to check out http://www.beyonceonline.com/for the lyrics; what’s the lyric book for then?

Review

Review

But,Kelly and Derrick 在新加坡的知名度is没人能取代的,at least to their supporters la.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

黄同学, ‘就’念‘jìu’, as in ‘zh-iò’, like ‘chio’, not ‘jew’. Get me? Hope so ah…

Okay, this is a Cantonese album that I really like a lot.

[Hate That I Love You] 的remix版。

“酩酊” is what?!?

10.Hate That I Love You

11.Hate That I Love You (国)(Rihanna+Hins)- 如同上一首。

Review

Another album which I have bought awhile ago. Look at what he is wearing! Chequered for everything! Gosh, I'm at a loss of words. Not to mention that bowtie of his too.

A power-packed ablum, 15 tracks in total, a must-buy for JJ’s fans. This CD has so much in it, definitely worth the price you pay for. Apart from JJ’s voice alone, you will get to hear voices including Charlene Choi, FAMA, Machi and Kym Jin. Contributors and producers of this much-goodness-in-one-album include Ah Shin of Mayday, Fang Wen Shan, Billy Koh, and this list goes on. Apart from the weird outfit JJ is in, this album is almost flawless, and definitely worth listening.

1. Sixology- An intro, JJ’s own words and feelings he wants to convey to people.

High Fashion- A little disco, a little techno, a little hip hop. The rhythm is heavy and punchy, while the lyrics are crappy. This song can get onto one’s nerves especially if put on repeat. I almost had a mental breakdown whilst listening to the song on repeat mode just to figure out what the lyrics meant. How irritating can it get when JJ sings “Kou Kou” for 12 times! What’s worse is that after so many times of listening to it while reading the lyrics, I still do not get the full picture. What is “叩叩 (kou kou)”, what is “扣扣 (kou kou)” and what is “抠抠 (kou kou)”? I do know that the first pair represents the sound of knocking, while the second is something like a button, or subtracting something, and the third one means digging. So? What has these got to do with fashion or money? I’m simply confused after listening to this song. However, I do have to admit that this song is quite a hit, especially with its catchy tune and lyrics (like you know, kou kou X12). Something different from the romantic ballades that JJ is good at, another playful and energetic side of him for us to hear. Miscellaneous info: This song has caused some hooha some time ago for plagiarism, the songs that netizens claimed JJ copied included [I Hate This Part] by The Pussycat Dolls, [Life is a Roller Coaster] by Ronan Keating and [碰碰] by IPIS. I specially went to listen to those above mentioned songs, and I have to say that Keating’s number does have a slight resemblance to JJ’s at the beginning of the song, but that’s just it. Plagiarism? Not quite. Coincidence, I suppose.

3.小酒窝 (feat. TWINS' 阿Sa) Dimples- A sweet and romantic duet with should-be-defunct-even-if-its-not Hong Kong girl group Twins’ Charlene Choi. Finally! A duet of JJ that is not sung with Kym Jin (金莎), that also means new chemistry. This duet is actually a prelude to the collaboration of Ocean Butterflies and Emperor Entertainment Group (EEG). It seems that in this dying economy, collusion is the way to survive. Hehheh, kidding. A definite karaoke hit.

Lord Vader- A marvelous pair, a surprising result, this song is great! Mayday’s lead vocalist, Ah Shin, is the lyricist of this song while JJ composes to this “dark knight”. The tune is very JJ-style, similar to his previous hits such as [木乃伊] Mummy, and the lyrics are also very Mayday, and voila, a unique and awesome collaboration.

Tale Of The Red Cliff- From the title of the song, it’s not difficult to guess who the lyricist is. Bingo, it is Fang Wen Shan, Jay Chou’s good-friend-cum-exclusive-lyricist, and no prize for that. This song is simply like any other 中国风Chinese-traditional-oriental (gosh, is there any proper word for it?) songs, not much surprise in this song. I’m getting rather bored with singers trying out the Chinese-traditional genre kind of song because they are kind of repetitive and similar, worse off when they get the same old guy to write the lyrics for the song. Agree?

6.由你选择(featuring农夫FAMA) The Choice Is Yours- This song features yet another Hong Kong band group called FAMA, it incorporates Cantonese lyrics as well and sounds extremely like a HK street music. R&B plus a little techno, this song is sure something fresh in the Mandarin music industry. We sure can tell that JJ is trying to break into the Cantonese industry, now that he have already carved a name for himself in both Taiwan and Mainland China. It’s not difficult, especially for talented JJ who always has surprises for his supporters.

7.Always Online- From that cheesy title, it’s obvious that this song is written for some online gaming/portal/service/whatever advertisement. Likening a relationship to an online game? Wow, life sure seems easy, like, where else can you be blessed with three lives? Anyway, this is one pleasant song that has a catchy tune, “3, 2, 1 I’m always online…” How nice.

8.街道 The Streets- Fast and Hip song, rather different from what JJ usually does, but JJ’s distinctive voice makes this alien rhythm sound familiar. Love the "wakau (哇靠)" and "walau (哇唠)". This song proves to all who thinks that JJ can only sing safe smooth rhythms; he has a rough and wild side that wants to have fun too.

9.主角(featuring Machi) Centerstage- Is JJ trying to have as many collaborations with different people as possible? In this song he partners Taiwanese Hip Hop group Machi and came out with this extreme fusion, I hear Indian-style, Chinese-style, Hip Hop and R&B in this song! All praise for JJ for his boldness in producing this song, it sounds so out of the norm yet interesting. For people who find this song excessively noisy, I do have to agree with you, but why not listen to it and pay hard attention to its lyrics, cos’ it definitely holds much more than it seems.

I Still Miss Her- A melancholic song, so romantic yet so painful. JJ’s slow ballades are very moving and can be very addictive. This song deserves to be listened over and over again, as JJ pours his emotions onto the song, singing out the struggles and denial of the dead relationship in the song.

Light the torch- A song written specially for the Beijing Olympics Torch Relay. I thought the Olympics Torch Relay was supposed to be energetic and fun? But why does this song sound so solemn? It initially sounds like a song written for the Sichuan earthquake, until you’ve heard the other song written for that purpose. No doubt, this song is pleasant and rather motivational. Something like a national day song, you know? Yeah.

12.期待爱(featuring Kym Jin) Longing- Not a new song, whoever that saw the advertisement of Wall’s Cornetto ice-cream will find this song familiar. It’s a duet with JJ’s usual partner, Kym Jin. This song is extremely catchy, it sounds so sweet and happy that it might simply explode with confetti bursting out all over the place anytime. A duet version of [期待你的爱]which is sang by JJ alone. And not to be confused with [发现爱], another duet by JJ and Kym that is also written for the same ice-cream brand previously.

13.Cries In A Distance- An English song with lyrics written by JJ himself. It is the English rendition of a previous track, Always Online. This version definitely sounds better and has more depth than its Mandarin counterpart. More emotions are felt in this song and that is all that makes any difference. Love this version; love how the lyrics seem so incomprehensible.

14.爱与希望(featuring 重庆市青少年宫银杏童声合唱团)Love, Hope- Tada, this is the song written specially for the Sichuan quake. How nice of JJ to write a song within such a short time after the quake, it indeed provided much warmth and encouragement for the victims and their family members. A simple tune with motivational lyrics, with the choir of children’s voices in the background, the most sincere form of music.

TWINS' 阿Sa) Dimples- The Cantonese version of track 3. It has different lyrics and is rather different to the Mandarin version. I find this version nicer and way more impressive, JJ’s Cantonese sounds almost perfect, to me at least. Nice one!

Overall, it is a heavy-duty album that definitely excites one. Turn up the volume if you want to have fun and just immerse yourself in JJ’s wonder. Selling only for S$16.90 at CD-RAMA, it’s definitely a steal.

Review
